General Billing & Attendance Information
At Maki Swim School, we are proud of our customizable and flexible schedule that serves both our customers, our staff and our organization well. We bill with transparency. Attendance at lessons is logged by both the customer sign-in, as well as the staff attendance log. We update our records weekly to reflect the most up-to-date representation of your credit of classes and your balance (if any) owed. Balances owed will be reflected by "NTP (need-to-pay) on the sign in sheet, and can also be confirmed by contacting our Campus Administrator. It is expected that payment is presented at the time of service. If you arrive for a lesson, and are showing a "NTP on your sign in, please leave payment that day or contact the office to arrange for payment. We accept cash, check and credit card. Currently, we do not offer electronic payment options, but hope to offer that very soon.
Missed Class Policy
For each 10-Pack of lessons purchased, you are entitled to one missed lesson due to illness or unforeseen schedule changes. This is considered an excused absence. You are entitled to a makeup class for this excused absence before your "session end date."
Additional absences (more than one in a 10-pack) are not considered excused, count as a lesson, and are not guaranteed a makeup. When a makeup is possible, they are only available if your absence was reported to us with 24 hours notice.
In the event that we cancel a lesson, these "Maki Cancels" will extend your end date by one week as a makeup lesson.
Please utilize our "absence form" to inform us of any absences 24 hours in advance. Last minute absences should be reported by phone or text to 408.358.7049.
Trial Classes and Refunds
We sell our lessons in packages. These are customizable, but our standard packages can be found on our "classes" page. If you are new to Maki, or trying out a new instructor, we can offer a trial class for the pro-rated cost for one lesson at the package rate. We do not offer free trial classes.
Refunds are only offered for unused lesson credits, and subject to approval on a case-by-case basis.
Maki Play Area Policy
We are happy to provide free access to our pool for 30 minutes adjacent to your scheduled swim lesson time. This time consists of 15 minutes of PRE-lesson water warm-up, directed by the child’s imagination, which is foundational to our Maki Magic Method and aligns with our Montessori approach. We also allow 15 minutes of pool time POST-lesson for skill review, practice and more play. This extra time is offered in our designated, roped-off “Play Area.”
The Maki Play Area is three feet in depth at its deepest (near the rope). As long as the child can touch the bottom, they may play without the use of assisted flotation, with a parent or guardian nearby on the pool deck.
If a child is not able to touch the bottom AND also is not yet “water-safe,” - the child may use one of our complimentary use flotation jackets to enjoy water warm-up.
Parents should remain poolside and are responsible for supervising their child. Sitting on the pool deck with feet in the water is acceptable, but please note that only parents who are enrolled members in a parent participation class or adult lessons should be fully in the water.
We strongly encourage recreational swim with your child, and Maki does reserve a few hours daily for members to reserve our pool for rec swim. Please email the office to request a rec swim appt if you would like to enjoy the pool with your family.
